Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of related experience and/or training in the maritime field
  • ABS/Coast Guard regulatory experience highly desirable
  • degree from maritime academy or seagoing experience in a licensed capacity or equivalent
  • ability to possess DOD SECRET security clearance
  • ISM and ISO auditor certification preferred but can be obtained during employment
  • maritime engine or deck qualifications/licenses preferred
  • ability to multitask and manage project timelines
  • ability to communicate and perform tasks in a team environment
  • ability to read and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • physical ability to perform light work and safely navigate vessels
  • willingness to travel approximately 25% including international travel
  • visual acuity for clerical and administrative tasks

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with related maritime experience or training
  • knowledge of Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE) preferred
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including SharePoint, Outlook, Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, Teams
  • effective communication and teamwork skills
  • ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • experience in conducting audits and managing corrective action requests
  • knowledge of ABS and Coast Guard regulations desirable
  • ability to assess and analyze safety and regulatory data

Job Duties

  • Promote the TOTE Services safety culture and adhere to all safety guidelines
  • maintain close relationships with internal and external customers of the Safety Management System
  • conduct annual internal and security audits onboard TOTE managed vessels and offices including national and international travel
  • document audit findings and assist with SMS updates and functionality in Nautical Systems Enterprise software
  • assist in implementing and administering SMS documentation within SharePoint
  • recommend, manage, and revise SMS documentation pertaining to shipboard and shoreside operations
  • review vessel compliance with company standards and assist in preparing policy changes for management review
  • obtain, assess, and analyze data from company systems to determine SMS health and compliance
  • continually assess audit protocols and suggest improvements
  • conduct government safety survey inspections as required
  • assist in facilitating the master’s annual SMS review and follow-up action items
  • assist with safety intranet content management and documentation archiving
  • assist in tracking and developing company’s Safety and Environmental Policies
  • coordinate preparation of materials for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
  • interface with customers and external stakeholders concerning injuries, incidents, and audits
  • assist in facilitating shoreside external (ABS) and internal audits
  • support operational safety teams including Emergency Response Team, Heavy Weather Advisory Team, and Continuous Improvement Working Group
