Job Requirements
- Transit safety experience
- Experience in transit, preferably urban public transit
- Passenger transportation experience preferred
- College degree or five plus years of safety management experience
- Certified Director of Safety or Certified Safety Professional designation preferred
- Knowledge of safety regulations including FTA, FMCSA, and DOT
- Knowledge of corporate safety programs
- English proficiency
- Effective communication skills
- Independent work capability
- Organizational skills
- Ability to delegate and supervise
- Windows OS and Microsoft Office proficiency
- Analytical skills
- Microsoft applications experience
Job Qualifications
- Transit safety experience
- Experience working in urban public transit preferred
- Previous passenger transportation experience in current project or similar environment preferred
- College degree or five plus years of safety management experience
- Prefer Certified Director of Safety (CDS) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation
- Certifications according to local contract requirements
- Knowledge of FTA, FMCSA, and DOT safety rules and regulations
- Knowledge of corporate safety programs and policies
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and objectively
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to delegate tasks and supervise staff effectively
- Familiarity with Windows-based operating systems and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
Job Duties
- Set the tone for ensuring all operators are current with training requirements of company and contract
- Ensure all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of operating divisions
- Serve as the expert in EPA and OSHA, CDL compliance and regulations
- Ensure all new hires meet minimum general qualifications including background and DMV checks
- Use safety technology tools to analyze data and develop plans to reduce incidents
- Oversee corporate safety incentives and programs, including assignment of Safety Points
- Promote a consistent safety culture emphasizing teamwork and individual responsibility
- Work with corporate claims staff to manage liability and worker’s compensation claims effectively
- Manage employee injury claims to minimize lost time and light duty claims
- Coordinate with local medical facilities to ensure prompt light duty placement and return to full duty
- Ensure successful completion of all related audits by corporate, client, state and federal agencies
- Lead safety organization for classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction according to specifications
