Job Requirements
- requires a bachelor's degree in environmental health and occupational safety, science, engineering, business administration or related field
- four years of experience in safety administration or a closely related field
- some supervisory experience preferred
- must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with City of Houston driving policies
- must be willing to work all shifts including rotating, weekends and holidays during emergency situations
- must be able to obtain and maintain security clearances
- must be available by cellular phone
- must be able to stand and walk for long periods
- able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
- must be willing to undergo pre-employment drug test and physical examination
- ability to drive to various locations
- must comply with random drug testing as a safety impact position
Job Qualifications
- bachelor's degree in environmental health and occupational safety, science, engineering, business administration or related field
- four years of experience in safety administration or closely related field
- some supervisory experience preferred
- professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Associate Risk Manager (ARM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Accredited Professional Statistician (PSTAT), Certified Analytics Specialist (CAP) preferred
- strong communication skills
- comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office
Job Duties
- develop and implement safety and health programs
- direct and coordinate technical and administrative activities of occupational health and safety programs
- design and implement ergonomic programs to mitigate occupational injuries
- conduct and analyze occupational health surveys
- advise and consult with public, management, labor, and professional groups on occupational health activities
- evaluate scientific and statistical data and prepare various reports
- consult with regulatory agencies concerning guidelines and standards
- oversee hazard communication and Right-To-Know programs
- supervise investigation and analysis of incidents involving city property or employees
- plan, develop, and coordinate comprehensive safety surveys and studies
- oversee safety and health training programs including first aid and defensive driving
- attend and participate in safety and health meetings and conferences
- prepare, analyze and distribute data and statistical reports on accidents and trends
- conduct or participate in group and committee safety meetings
- conduct and participate in special projects
- drive to various locations as required
