Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of company orientation
  • completion of food safety and sanitation training upon hire
  • ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment performing detailed and precise tasks
  • ability to work with customers and stay attentive to their needs
  • ability to meet physical demands including frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds depending on department
  • adherence to all department and store operating procedures and food safety standards
  • willingness to ask for assistance when lifting heavy items

Job Duties

  • Provides superior customer service
  • takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • answers customer questions regarding products
  • assists them with selections
  • prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
  • slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • assists in technical areas as needed including basic set-up and clean-up processes
  • uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • operates and maintains equipment properly
  • complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • complies with department and store operating procedures
  • performs production and shrink records in bakery
  • assists in baking, frying, and decorating
  • handles service counter customers in deli
  • uses ordering system applications and Fresh Production Planner
  • performs inventory management processes
  • prepares catering orders if applicable
  • performs sanitation and maintenance of deli slicers
  • serves and packages prepared foods at customer request
  • educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions
  • prepackages condiments
  • cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for chef
