Job Requirements

  • Requires reading, writing and mathematical skills
  • One to two years of related experience in nutrition services
  • Food handlers card required within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services team members
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines for working with cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to learn and use business computer software and point of sale systems
  • Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills

Job Qualifications

  • Reading, writing and mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of nutrition services typically gained through one to two years of related experience
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Friendly customer service attitude
  • Ability to work quickly and correctly while following dietary, food quality and sanitation standards
  • Ability to operate business computer software and point of sale systems
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures preferred
  • Additional related education and or experience preferred
  • Bilingual skills preferred for some assignments

Job Duties

  • Visit patients to obtain or discuss menu selections based upon dietary orders
  • Enter or record all daily patient meal selections and preferences for one or more patient units
  • Demonstrate appropriate judgment with modified diets, food and menu knowledge when relating to patients
  • Request Diet Tech or Dietitian assistance when needed
  • Edit patient menus as required
  • Provide patient meal service including setting up tray work stations, preparing or portioning assigned foods according to correct quantities, and assembling patient trays
  • Deliver and serve meals making independent judgments about special requests, snacks and nourishments
  • Provide excellent customer service on the phone or in person and resolve customer complaints effectively and efficiently
  • Maintain food handling and sanitation standards to meet licensing agency requirements
  • Interact with patients and families, other food service staff, nursing staff, dietetic technicians and dietitians
  • Follow work routines, work quickly and correctly while providing good customer service and maintaining dietary, food quality and sanitation standards
  • Resolve minor problems with patient menus and trays
