Job Requirements

  • Ability to obtain Deschutes County Food Handlers Card within 2 weeks of hire
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Commitment to deliver high-quality customer service
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to follow isolation and safety precautions
  • Willingness to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Physical capacity to perform job functions including bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and operating motor vehicles as needed
  • Must comply with food safety standards and sanitation protocols
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients and healthcare staff
  • Must adhere to confidentiality and professionalism standards.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (equivalent education and experience will be considered)
  • Ability to obtain Deschutes County Food Handlers Card within 2 weeks of hire
  • Knowledge of customer service principles
  • Understanding of therapeutic diets and menu items
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and procedures
  • Experience in food service or customer service preferred
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP guidelines preferred
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Physical ability to perform job duties including standing, walking, lifting and carrying items
  • Commitment to supporting organizational values and continuous improvement principles.

Job Duties

  • Participates in the assembly of patient trays to meet patient's request and diet order
  • Delivers trays to patient rooms in a timely manner
  • Verifies patient tray is correct utilizing the Double Patient Identifier process prior to leaving tray with the patient
  • Notifies appropriate nursing staff if patient has safety precautions for aspiration or any other precautionary safety needs
  • Follows all precautions regarding isolation precautions in delivery of food to patients under isolation or any other precautionary care
  • Conducts all delivery activities with the highest level of customer service
  • Creates positive interactions with all staff, patients and guests at every point of contact
  • Ensures tray and food are in proper order when delivering to the patient, validates with patient food is what patient ordered and expected
  • Maintains knowledge of therapeutic diets and menu items to ensure patient's diet restrictions are adhered to
  • Stocks food supply areas on assigned patient floors as directed
  • Cleans and sanitizes surfaces and equipment for room service as directed
  • Stores and handles all food properly following the guidelines of Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Maintains clean work areas including work surfaces, floors, walls and equipment in compliance with St. Charles Health System standards and Oregon Food Sanitation standards
  • Provides support to other areas of food services as directed by manager, supervisor or coordinator, as needed
  • Delivers customer service to both internal and external customers in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate
  • Supports the organization's vision, mission and values in all respects
  • Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, acting ethically and reporting any known or suspected violations
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.
