Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Five years related experience in hospitality industry
  • CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Physical ability to hike up to 10 miles per day
  • Basic knowledge of Southern Utah history and Colorado Plateau geology
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure
  • Familiarity with recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising staff
  • High level of energy
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Five years related experience in hospitality industry required
  • Road Scholar instructor or group leader experience preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Physical ability to hike up to 10 miles per day in varying elevations, terrains and conditions
  • Basic knowledge of Southern Utah history and Colorado Plateau geology, geography, human history, flora, and fauna
  • Strong organizational skills and effective in prioritizing and multi-tasking
  • Ability to perform under pressure in emergency situations
  • Familiarity with recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising program staff
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise critical human relations skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse community

Job Duties

  • Lead Road Scholar hiking trips with 14 to 24 participants
  • Assist Road Scholar Director in planning, organizing, and supervising Road Scholar programs
  • Plan the program educational content and activity management
  • Maintain good communication at all times
  • Research new ideas and recommend changes as needed
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise instructors and hike leaders
  • Plan ongoing training sessions and special events
  • Assist with bus maintenance and management
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational, time management and people skills
  • Set goals, prioritize, make decisions, communicate and delegate
  • Initiate a positive tone for the whole office
  • Perform other duties as assigned
