Job Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited RN school of nursing
  • Valid RN license in the state employed
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Two years of nursing experience preferred

  • Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members and at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Job Duties

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the ostomy care for patients on units
  • Provides advanced clinical guidance to physicians and nursing staff for complex wound drainage, drainage confinement, skin protection, and the prevention of pressure necrosis
  • Develops and conducts educational programs for staff
  • Determines appropriate nursing interventions for identified patient problems, symptoms, and teaching needs
  • Develops a patient care plan and determines the equipment, materials, and resources needed to successfully implement the care plan
  • Selects the stoma site on the patient prior to surgery based on the patient’s anatomy, activity level, and lifestyle
  • Performs related responsibilities as required
