Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree preferred but not required
- one to three months related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- students under 18 years may be hired part-time but restricted from operating hazardous equipment and must comply with CT DOL regulations
- ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
- ability to communicate one-on-one with customers
- ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- ability to apply common sense in routine situations
- ability to operate hand truck
- ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 100 pounds
- willingness to work weekends, holidays and evenings
- compliance with personal protective equipment requirements
- ability to work in various environmental conditions including wet and humid areas
- commitment to maintaining safety and reporting hazards immediately

Job Duties
- Follow verbal instructions or read work orders to determine materials to be moved
- assist donors by carrying donated merchandise from vehicles into the store
- assist customers by carrying heavy or bulky purchases to their vehicles
- sort, price and grade newly arrived goods
- convey materials to and from storage or work areas using hand trucks, carts, pallet jacks or straddle stackers
- operate equipment like trash compactors and tipping machines as needed
- stock shelves, counters and tables
- count, weigh and record materials moved and prepare inventory
- assist in preparing shipping documentation
- ensure crates are properly labeled
- install strapping and load bars for transport
- lift heavy objects and maintain a clean work area
- assist at retail outlets with sorting, moving fixtures and setting up displays
- remove snow and ice to ensure safety
- perform other duties assigned by supervisor
