Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree preferred but not required
  • One to three months related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Students under 18 must abide by CT DOL regulations and not operate hazardous equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to communicate with customers one-on-one
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding
  • Ability to operate hand truck
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to push crates on wheels that may weigh up to 600 pounds
  • Ability to follow safety protocols including PPE use
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, talk, hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
  • Vision abilities including close, distance, and color vision

Job Duties

  • Follow verbal instructions or read work orders to determine materials and containers to be moved
  • Assist donors by carrying donated merchandise from their vehicle into the store
  • Assist customers by carrying heavy or bulky purchases to their vehicle
  • Sort, price and grade newly arrived goods
  • Convey materials to and from storage or work areas using hand truck, carts, pallet jack or straddle stacker
  • Use equipment to handle, move or dispose of materials such as trash compactor and tipping equipment
  • Stock shelves, counters and tables
  • Count, weigh and record number of units of material moved or handled
  • Prepare inventory of stock as required
  • Assist in preparation of all shipping documentation
  • Ensure contents of crates are clearly labeled and secure items for transit
  • Lift heavy objects and maintain clean work areas, machines and equipment
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and grounds as assigned
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
