Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1-2 years retail cooking experience
  • ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • State of Illinois Department of Public Health Food Sanitation Certificate

Job Duties

  • Contributes to hospital’s philosophy, mission statement, and values in all interactions
  • follows established uniform policy
  • maintains a professional image
  • responds positively to all requests and interactions
  • utilizes standardized recipes and ingredient control
  • follows proper preparation procedures
  • checks food temperatures, texture, color, aroma, and taste prior to service for all items at designated stations including soups, chili, and other hot and cold items
  • batch cooks food products that do not maintain quality if held for thirty minutes
  • prepares food to order upon customer request such as grilled cheeses, sandwiches, pasta entrees, and salads
  • practices proper food rotation using first in, first out method
  • ensures safe food storage, no cross-contamination, and proper labeling and dating of food items
  • serves food from steam tables following holding procedures and time/temperature regulations
  • stocks and monitors cold food items and maintains proper labeling and temperature checks every 4 hours per IDPH standards
  • stocks and monitors NSF rated warmers at station ensuring food is held no longer than 30 minutes
  • follows position timeline and job routine ensuring timely performance
  • adheres to attendance and clock-in policies
  • uses non-break time efficiently and productively
  • records all food production amounts accurately
  • serves customers appropriate pre-determined portion sizes
  • properly uses food products and utilizes carryovers
  • attends scheduled department in-services
  • participates in production meetings and feedback sessions
  • reports problems with recipes or production promptly for continuous quality improvement
  • assists with cross-training other employees
