The Associated Students of California State University, Chico (CSU, Chico) is a dynamic and multifaceted campus auxiliary corporation dedicated to serving the diverse needs of thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members. Job Requirements

  • Possession of or ability to obtain ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent within one year of hire
  • Ability to pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical
  • Successful completion of a background check including criminal records check
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption with compliance to weekly testing if unvaccinated
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to use manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • Verbal communication skills
  • Ability to reach and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to use kitchen equipment

Job Qualifications

  • One year full-time or part-time equivalent responsible work experience in quantity food preparation, cooking and service or four semesters as a student worker at Marketplace Café, Sutter Hall or Catering departments of the Associated Students
  • Culinary training preferred
  • Ability to provide direction and work coordination for student assistants
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, general public, co-workers, and others contacted during work
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of preparing and cooking menu items
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and use of a variety of kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of food service sanitation and safety
  • Ability to estimate proper quantities for economical food service

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks menu items as directed
  • Assists lead cooks as needed with preparation
  • Prepares cooking area
  • Assists in monitoring customer traffic to minimize waiting and the amount of time food must be held on the serving line
  • Ensures proper cleanliness, sanitation, and safety is maintained during cooking
  • Properly stores leftover food items and supplies at the conclusion of the serving period
  • Properly cleans and sanitizes the food preparation areas
  • Assists with coordinating the work of student assistants assigned to food production
  • Assists with a variety of other food service functions as needed
  • Identifies and reports problems regarding equipment malfunction
  • Represents the AS Dining Services to the campus community, vendors, and customers
  • Other duties may be assigned
