The role of Resident Attendant for the Girls Dorms at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus is a vital position dedicated to the safety, supervision, and well-being of residential students. Job Requirements
- High school diploma/ged
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a directly related field
- Ability to obtain certification in cpr, first aid, and aed within 2 months of hire
- Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance
- Ability to work cooperatively, effectively and efficiently with students and other professionals
- Skilled in organizing and prioritizing workload while working independently in campus wide and off campus spaces
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact in sensitive situations in a professional manner
Job Qualifications
- Working understanding of hawaiian language and cultural values
- Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
- Able to assess and mediate individual and group conflicts with basic counseling, including but not limited to listening, reflecting and summarizing skills
- Demonstrated skill in handling crises and emergency situations involving student welfare and safety
- Strong knowledge of common institution-wide computer application programs, including web based meeting platforms
Job Duties
- Serve as an educator for students' development of life skills, social emotional learning, Hawaiian culture, and Christian values
- Provide reinforcement of positive behaviors through encouragement and praise
- Provide correction and redirection for students and hold them to high standards
- Actively listen to students thoughts, ideas, and concerns
- Provide opportunities for student exploration of independence by providing developmentally appropriate options and choices within programmatic parameters
- Practice active supervision during shift to ensure the safety of all students
- Be available and accessible to students in the event of an emergency
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with respective staff teams
- Participate in staff professional development and team building activities
- Follow policies and protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff
- Monitor facilities for all safety concerns and enter work orders as needed to address issues
- Monitor duty logs for residents to keep updated on student behavior, community climate, and overall well-being
- Provide opportunities for students to practice leadership and critical thinking skills
- Intervene impartially during emergency situations
- Provide basic first aid care by adhering to medical training
- Immediately report signs of student mental health concerns to the appropriate persons
- Follow all child abuse reporting protocols with urgency and accuracy
- Maintain an awareness of student whereabouts at all times during overnight shift
- Reinforce lessons about safety including fire safety, chemical usage, internet safety, etc., as needed
- Log all student and perimeter checks
- Prohibit visitors and keep an awareness of all emergency personnel and/or staff that may enter the dorms during overnight shift
- Maintain accurate and review check out records and follow check out procedures
- Provide an organic living learning environment that fosters learning and encourages students to seek self improvement through their studies
- Reinforce appropriate study skills and provide environments that are conducive to learning
