Job Requirements
- must be at least 15 years old at time of hire
- must obtain a work permit if under 18
- current tuberculosis test
- must pass a physical examination
- must pass a background check including fingerprinting
- ability to swim 50 yards using front crawl or breaststroke without stopping
- ability to tread water for 2 minutes without support
- ability to retrieve a 10-pound object from 6 feet underwater within required time
- willingness to work varied schedules including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Job Qualifications
- must be at least 15 years old at time of hire
- must obtain a work permit if under 18
- possession of a current american red cross lifeguard certification and cpr for the professional rescuer certificate is required at the time of appointment
- current title 22 first aid for public safety personnel certificate within 1 year of appointment
- ability to perform swimming and rescue skills including swim-tread-swim sequences
- availability to attend all scheduled lifeguard training class sessions
- strong communication and observational skills
- ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Job Duties
- maintains constant watch over patrons in assigned areas and assists patrons in distress
- enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by city policies
- performs emergency procedures when needed and administers first aid as necessary
- completes appropriate reports and forms as necessary
- helps with the swim lessons program and the swim team program during the summer season by teaching lessons and/or lifeguarding
- participates fully in lifeguard training classes and skills tests
- works under the general supervision of recreation supervisors or coordinators
