Job Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, therapeutic recreation, exercise science, or a related field
  • Or an equivalent combination of education above high school level and four years of relevant experience
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week with varied hours including weekends, holidays, mornings, nights
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting 50 pounds with assistance and working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Must be available for extended shift work up to 16 hours
  • Must complete required department orientation and training
  • Must have a DMV transcript as part of application
  • Willingness to work at multiple park facilities and event sites
  • Alpha I position requiring availability during emergencies or inclement weather
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional customer service
  • Must participate in hybrid remote work schedule after initial training

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, therapeutic recreation, exercise science, or related field
  • Four years of professional experience in recreation or event management
  • Experience in managing logistics of outdoor special events
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervise diverse teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Planner, and ACTIVE Net
  • Ability to engage community and maintain strong partnerships
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Knowledge of City policies related to event management
  • Experience in budgeting and financial reporting for events

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate outdoor special events and ceremonies
  • Provide manual labor for event setup and breakdown
  • Coordinate delivery and pickup of contractual equipment
  • Complete event permits and prepare event layouts and agreements
  • Coordinate with performers and manage event logistics and technical requirements
  • Develop and execute entertainment and production service agreements
  • Recruit and manage exhibitors and food vendors including applications and documentation
  • Use event-related software for account management and reports
  • Maintain and track equipment and supply inventory
  • Participate in staff and event meetings
  • Conduct on-site planning meetings
  • Research and monitor event trends
  • Enforce City policies and assist with incident investigations
  • Assist with private rentals and nature-based programs
  • Supervise part-time staff, volunteers, contract staff, and interns including training and evaluation
  • Provide onsite supervision during events to ensure safety and smooth operations
  • Train staff in quality customer service
  • Operate multi-line telephone and respond to inquiries
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional communication
  • Address and resolve customer and vendor issues
  • Develop and maintain internal and external communication and partnerships
  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and financial tracking
  • Prepare reports and conduct surveys on event performance
