Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or two years of college in parks, recreation and leisure studies or a related field
  • at least three to five years of parks recreation experience
  • valid drivers license
  • for adaptive recreation, a minimum of one year of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities or in adaptive recreation, education or similar programs
  • any combination of education, training, and experience which provide requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for the position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the city

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or two years of college in parks, recreation and leisure studies or a related field
  • three to five years of parks recreation experience
  • valid drivers license
  • for adaptive recreation, a minimum of one year of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities or in adaptive recreation, education, or similar programs
  • training or certification in adaptive sports, behavioral management, or inclusion facilitation is preferred
  • crisis prevention and intervention (CPI) or equivalent training is preferred
  • two or more years of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating adaptive or inclusive recreation programs for youth and adults with disabilities is preferred
  • experience supervising staff, volunteers, or part-time instructors in an adaptive recreation setting is preferred
  • experience developing partnerships with community organizations, schools, or agencies that serve individuals with disabilities is preferred

Job Duties

  • Create, implement, and evaluate recreation programs and activities with a focus on adaptive programming or special events
  • research and recommend program offerings
  • develop activity timelines
  • schedule registration dates and meetings
  • maintain supply inventories
  • prepare materials
  • report equipment or facility concerns
  • enter and maintain program information in recreation management software
  • manage waitlists
  • generate reports
  • ensure accurate recordkeeping
  • support volunteers, vendors, contract instructors, and community partners during events
  • serve as point of contact for recreation staff and programs
  • train and oversee seasonal staff
  • serve as point of contact for facilities
  • address customer complaints, facility concerns, and maintenance needs
  • oversee financial transactions and reconcile income reports during point of contact shifts
  • oversee scheduling of programs and rentals across multiple parks and facilities
  • assist in setup, breakdown, cleaning, and safe operation of program areas, facilities, and event spaces
  • support participant check-in, registration processes, program tracking, and customer service duties
  • monitor participants to ensure safety, rule compliance, and positive engagement
  • uphold city policies, safety guidelines, customer service standards, and departmental procedures
  • assist with marketing and promotional activities
  • participate in departmental meetings, staff training, and community engagement efforts
  • provide support for other recreation programs, events, or facilities during peak periods or staffing shortages
  • perform all other duties as assigned
