Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • several years of experience in recreation program management or related field
  • reliable transportation
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

  • familiarity with City policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, public administration, or related field preferred
  • experience in program planning and supervision
  • strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • ability to manage budgets and financial resources
  • experience with marketing and public outreach
  • proficiency with recreation management software
  • knowledge of safety and risk management practices
  • ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call as needed
  • experience recruiting, training, and evaluating staff and volunteers

Job Duties

  • Provide good customer service to internal and external customers
  • maintain positive and effective working relationships with City employees
  • interview, hire, train, and evaluate recreation division employees
  • plan, assign, and delegate projects and tasks
  • reward and discipline employees
  • address complaints and solve employee-related problems
  • perform personnel supervisory responsibilities
  • strategically plan, implement, and evaluate programs
  • manage facilities and represent the City in programs and special events
  • establish program goals and conduct annual evaluations and surveys
  • register teams and individuals for league and program participation
  • schedule practices and sessions
  • handle communication with participants, parents, coaches, and volunteers
  • setup and maintain online field and facility reservations
  • recruit, train, schedule, and appraise contract laborers and sports officials
  • promote recreation programs and implement marketing strategies
  • oversee program budgets and fiscal responsibility
  • comply with City policies on purchasing and payments
  • solicit sponsorships, grants, donations, and in-kind services
  • supervise games, tournaments, clinics, and special events
  • collaborate on program budgets and oversee more than $100,000 in budgets
  • coordinate facility maintenance for program readiness and safety
  • assist in special event and program organization
  • serve as liaison with tournament and event directors and facility renters
  • support office administration and provide front desk assistance
  • maintain accurate timesheets and follow payroll procedures
  • enforce park ordinances and manage risk during events
  • represent the City positively and resolve citizen issues at events
  • perform other assigned duties
