Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, recreation, physical education, or related field
  • Minimum of seven years experience in supervising and coordinating recreational events and programs
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid State of Idaho driver's license
  • Must obtain Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification within one year of hire
  • Ability to operate personal computer and learn new software quickly
  • Strong knowledge of recreation programming and leadership techniques
  • Ability to plan, organize, supervise and evaluate personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work outdoors and in office settings
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to budget and adhere to budget guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, recreation, physical education, or related field
  • Seven plus years of experience in supervising and coordinating recreational events and programs
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid State of Idaho driver's license
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) within one year of hire date
  • Considerable knowledge of recreation methods, practices and principles
  • Considerable knowledge of organizing sports and outdoor programming
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of marketing and public relations practices
  • Conflict resolution abilities
  • Budgeting experience
  • Skilled in instructing and coaching varied recreation activities
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills

Job Duties

  • Develop new recreation programs for all age groups and review current programs for effectiveness and interest
  • Oversee planning and organization of tours for seniors, adults, and children
  • Schedule athletic fields and facilities for department use and handle permit process for outside interests
  • Supervise youth and adult programs at community parks, schools, playgrounds, and other recreational sites
  • Plan, supervise, and run special events at community parks including the Nampa Festival of the Arts, Harvest Classic Fun Run, movies in the park and more
  • Prepare assigned program budgets including submitting budget proposals annually, setting fees, maintaining accurate accounts of revenue, and approving expenditures
  • Work closely with school personnel, youth agencies, and the general public to promote interest in recreation programs
  • Plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel including hiring, scheduling, training, disciplining, and rewarding staff
  • Conduct training sessions for part-time and seasonal employees
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and program equipment
  • Interpret and enforce rules of play and maintain order and discipline for recreational activities and league play
  • Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and administration of the annual budget
  • Keep abreast of current trends in recreation by reviewing literature and participating in professional organizations
  • Promote current and new programs
  • Recruit volunteers for coaching and special events
  • Assume responsibility for other assigned duties
