Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks & Recreation or related field
  • two years of relevant professional experience
  • valid driver's license
  • ability to work nights and weekends
  • physical ability to perform light lifting of 5-10 pounds
  • capability of extended periods at a keyboard or work station
  • ability to communicate orally
  • work in non-adverse environmental conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks & Recreation or related field
  • two years of experience in parks and recreation or related area
  • experience supervising and directing staff
  • knowledge of program planning and implementation
  • ability to coordinate multiple activities
  • strong communication and public relations skills
  • budget management experience
  • proficiency in scheduling and facility management
  • skills in training and staff development

Job Duties

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff
  • processes employee concerns and problems
  • directs work and assigns tasks
  • counsels and disciplines staff
  • completes employee performance appraisals
  • coordinates daily work activities
  • organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work
  • creates and distributes staff schedules
  • ensures adequate staffing for programs and events
  • monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work
  • consults with assigned staff
  • assists with complex and problem situations
  • provides technical expertise
  • trains staff in operational policies and procedures
  • plans, implements, and coordinates diversified recreation and sports programs
  • develops program services and activities
  • schedules classes, leagues, events and programs
  • reserves facilities and schedules grounds use
  • coordinates and supervises instructors, staff, and volunteers
  • provides information and direction
  • processes participant registrations
  • manages programs according to local, state and federal guidelines
  • coordinates facility and grounds use
  • maintains master calendar
  • schedules facility rentals
  • prepares for scheduled events
  • sets-up meeting rooms
  • decorates for special events
  • maintains related documentation
  • develops and implements budget
  • monitors expenditures
  • assists in obtaining and monitoring use of granted funds
  • maintains inventories of supplies and forms
  • prepares and submits purchase orders
  • receives and distributes incoming supply shipments
  • performs public relations
  • provides information and answers questions
  • develops brochures, flyers, newsletters, calendars and news releases
  • promotes activities to civic groups, community organizations, schools, and the public
  • prepares and makes presentations regarding services and activities
  • communicates with department administration, county employees, sports associations, the public, and other organizations
  • participates in committees
  • attends meetings
  • provides input regarding facility and program activities
  • performs other related duties as assigned
