Job Requirements

  • Must be able to travel to various offsite locations for meetings, trainings, and supervision
  • must possess physical ability to perform job duties including occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds
  • must be willing to submit to fingerprinting as mandated by state law
  • flexible to work evenings, weekends, and other hours as needed
  • must be willing to establish primary residence within 45 minutes of City Hall
  • must be included in the Civil Service System and represented by the Stockton City Employees' Association bargaining unit
  • must be able to maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, public or business administration, or a closely related field
  • one year of experience including recreation program planning and implementation or recreation facility supervision
  • knowledge of recreation programs including sports, games, arts, crafts, and performing arts
  • strong communication and leadership skills
  • ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • experience in managing volunteers
  • familiarity with basic supervisory practices

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, evaluate and direct recreational programs and events
  • recruit, assign, train and coordinate volunteers and support staff
  • develop and review recreation programs for effectiveness
  • travel to offsite locations for meetings and supervision
  • collaborate with schools, agencies and community to promote recreation programs
  • instruct and coach participants in recreational activities
  • enforce safety procedures and maintain order at recreation sites
