Job Requirements
- Must be able to travel to various offsite locations for meetings, trainings, and supervision
- must possess physical ability to perform job duties including occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds
- must be willing to submit to fingerprinting as mandated by state law
- flexible to work evenings, weekends, and other hours as needed
- must be willing to establish primary residence within 45 minutes of City Hall
- must be included in the Civil Service System and represented by the Stockton City Employees' Association bargaining unit
- must be able to maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations
Job Qualifications
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, public or business administration, or a closely related field
- one year of experience including recreation program planning and implementation or recreation facility supervision
- knowledge of recreation programs including sports, games, arts, crafts, and performing arts
- strong communication and leadership skills
- ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- experience in managing volunteers
- familiarity with basic supervisory practices
Job Duties
- Plan, organize, evaluate and direct recreational programs and events
- recruit, assign, train and coordinate volunteers and support staff
- develop and review recreation programs for effectiveness
- travel to offsite locations for meetings and supervision
- collaborate with schools, agencies and community to promote recreation programs
- instruct and coach participants in recreational activities
- enforce safety procedures and maintain order at recreation sites
