Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • two years of group leadership experience in a recreation setting
  • or a college degree in recreation or a related field
  • certification in CPR and First Aid within first three months of employment
  • valid driver’s license when work assignment requires driving
  • pass post-employment physical examination and drug screen

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school
  • two years of group leadership experience in a recreation setting
  • concentration in one or more specialties in the field of recreation or sports
  • college degree in recreation or related field may substitute for experience
  • knowledge of recreation program planning
  • ability to lead and instruct recreation activities
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within first three months of employment

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and instruct various athletic recreation activities
  • participate in agency planning, research, training, budget, and action plan preparation
  • work closely with other recreation agencies to develop recreational facilities
  • complete logistic support and supervisory assignments in special activities
  • promote and publicize activities with the media
  • train recreation leaders and associates in recreation principles
  • recruit and train temporary staff and volunteers
  • ensure safety of participants
  • maintain necessary records and submit required reports
  • perform related work as required
