Job Requirements

  • Possession of valid California Class C Driver's License
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • One year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to aquatics programs
  • Ability to train and supervise staff
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Spanish fluency preferred
  • Relevant certifications or willingness to obtain them

Job Qualifications

  • One year of experience in the design and coordination of recreational, educational, and prevention programs and events including leadership of group activities for children or adults
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and operating a recreation aquatics program is highly desirable
  • College-level courses in recreation, physical education, sociology, education, criminal justice, or related field
  • Possession or ability to obtain certifications such as Lifeguard Certified (LG), Lifeguard Instructor Certified (LGI), Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Certified (LGIT), Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT), Advanced Lifesaving CPR/First Aid, and/or Title 22 Certified
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of recreational, educational, and prevention program objectives and methods
  • Ability to develop, implement, and coordinate programs
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to collaborate with agencies and maintain effective working relationships

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate a variety of recreational, educational, and prevention activities including aquatics, tutoring, arts and crafts, games and sports, special events, excursions, park naturalist programs, teen programming, parent and family activities, and leisure classes
  • Consult and collaborate with residents, community groups, and schools to determine local needs and plan programs
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of program activities
  • Assist with research on programs and resources and development of program materials
  • Train staff to implement activities
  • Assist with grant application processes and development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and strategic plans
  • Develop and monitor program budgets
  • Make public presentations at professional conferences and public meetings
  • Assist with recruitment, training, assignment, guidance, monitoring, and correction of subordinate staff
  • Collect activity and attendance records and prepare evaluation reports
  • Maintain and issue supplies, equipment, and materials
  • Perform other related duties as required
