Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum 1 year experience in recreation or health club operations or related field
  • or an associate degree in Health Education, Physical Education, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or similar major
  • strong supervisory and management skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to perform duties in employees' absence
  • capability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload
  • valid work authorization in the United States
  • willingness to work full time on-site at Marriott Marquis Houston
  • commitment to delivering exceptional customer service
  • flexibility to work varying schedules including weekends and holidays
  • ability to coordinate and manage outside vendors
  • physical ability to oversee pool and beach maintenance and related activities

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year experience in recreation or health club operations or related professional area
  • or 2-year degree from an accredited university in Health Education, Physical Education, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major with no work experience required
  • strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • excellent customer service skills
  • ability to schedule and coordinate events
  • knowledge of pool and beach area operations
  • proficiency in managing vendors and supplies
  • effective communication and coaching abilities
  • ability to develop and implement departmental strategies
  • experience with employee training and performance evaluation
  • aptitude for fostering teamwork and positive work environment

Job Duties

  • Supervises and manages employees
  • supports day-to-day operations
  • understands employee positions well enough to perform duties in employees' absence
  • monitors quality, standards, and meets customer expectations daily
  • demonstrates knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes
  • schedules events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others
  • provides personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to coworkers, customers, or patients
  • develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work
  • supports the management of outside vendors including water sports and scuba
  • orders and manages necessary supplies
  • ensures workers have supplies, equipment, tools, and uniforms necessary to do their jobs
  • manages the children's program including coordinating activities, purchasing equipment and supplies
  • manages group activities including sand painting, bon fires, and team building events
  • manages pool and beach areas including overall maintenance, daily upkeep, cleanliness, and operation of cabana units
  • serves as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behaviors
  • provides above and beyond customer service and retention
  • improves service by communicating and assisting individuals to understand guest needs
  • provides guidance, feedback, and individual coaching when needed
  • identifies developmental needs of others and coaches, mentors, or helps improve knowledge or skills
  • participates in performance appraisal process giving feedback when needed
  • coordinates training activities for employees
  • encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
  • communicates expectations and performance objectives to subordinates
  • fosters open communication for questions or concerns
