The City of Safety Harbor, Florida, is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join its Leisure Services Department within the Recreation Division. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or Leisure Services
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in recreation and/or leisure services
  • One year at a supervisory level
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise subordinates
  • Knowledge of budgetary development and administration
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to use basic computer applications
  • Ability to maintain records and reports
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Physical ability to perform reaching, bending, lifting, sitting, standing, walking
  • Acceptable eyesight and hearing with or without correction or aids

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or Leisure Services
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in recreation and/or leisure services, including one year at a supervisory level
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional required
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of community leisure services administration
  • Knowledge of public facility management from the developmental stage to operation
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures as applied to recreational, aquatic, and athletic programs
  • Knowledge of a wide range of recreational, athletic activities, recreation administration, and related facilities or equipment
  • Knowledge of budgetary development and administration
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with participants, community groups, and advisory boards
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with elected officials, Department Directors, the general public, and staff
  • Ability to write and present clear, concise reports, memorandums, directives, and speeches
  • Basic computer knowledge, use, and application
  • Ability to maintain clear and adequate reports and maintain records

Job Duties

  • Manages and facilitates recreation programs, rentals, and events at City facilities
  • Assists in the coordination, planning, and operations of special events
  • Plans, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of subordinates, contractual instructors, and volunteer staff
  • Responsible for developing, staffing, scheduling, equipping, supervising and evaluating seasonal and yearly leisure programs and activities
  • Trains, supervises, and assists staff in the development and implementation of recreational programs, reservations, and events
  • Assists in the determination of recreation program needs
  • creates annual goals, measures and action plans
  • Conducts and/or coordinates staff and volunteer training sessions
