Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • equivalent to one year of paid or volunteer work in an entry-level position in an organized recreation or community service program or work in a customer service and leadership position
  • able to pass fingerprint background check
  • able to pass physical exam including drug screening and tuberculosis testing
  • must submit proof of work permit if under 18
  • willing to work variable hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • equivalent to one year of paid or volunteer work in an entry-level position in an organized recreation or community service program or work in a customer service and leadership position
  • school-related leadership participation can be substituted for some or all of the work experience
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to maintain a safe environment

Job Duties

  • Lead and conduct a variety of activities and programs at recreation facilities
  • prepare and disseminate program publicity materials
  • prepare and maintain reports and records of program activities
  • set up and break down at City facilities and equipment
  • maintain facilities and equipment
  • maintain inventories of program supplies and materials
  • provide leadership and assistance for group recreation and community events
  • attend and assist in training other recreation staff and volunteers
  • enforce City, department and program rules, policies and regulations
  • maintain a safe environment in the assigned area/program
  • assist other City staff and members of the public
  • work a flexible work schedule that may include evenings, holidays and weekends
  • attend staff meetings and training
  • maintain professional, courteous behavior toward co-workers, members of the public and all others contacted in the course of work
  • perform related duties as assigned by supervisor in area of assignment
