Job Requirements
- Present enrollment in high school or graduation from high school or equivalent
- Some leadership experience and participation in recreation activities
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Valid California Class C Driver's License is highly desirable
- Ability to lift and move objects totaling approximately 25 pounds
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work under direct supervision and as part of a team
- Willingness to be fingerprinted and pass background check
- Availability to work flexible schedule including holidays
- Ability to use standard office equipment including computers
- Physical ability for prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, stooping, and bending
Job Qualifications
- Present enrollment in high school
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college level coursework in recreation, physical education, or a related field is highly desirable
- Some leadership experience and participation in recreation activities
- Previous experience coordinating recreational activities, preferably in a municipal setting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of municipal recreation practices is desirable
- Knowledge of customer service techniques
- Ability to lead and work effectively with program participants
- Leadership and organization to provide recreation activities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials, and the public
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public
- Proficiency using a computer and a variety of computer software
- Ability to learn, understand, and apply relevant policies and procedures
- Ability to lift and move tables and chairs and arrange facilities for special events or meetings
- Ability to maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner
Job Duties
- Assist in the coordination of recreation programs including adult and youth sports, senior services, special events, contract classes, and other recreational activities
- Perform a variety of general administrative duties including answer telephones, assist customers, collect fees, and maintain attendance records
- Promote the safety of all program participants
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and sports equipment for all facility activities and special events
- Oversee the regular operations of a community center, fields, and gymnasium facility
- Respond to patrons' needs for assistance and information in person, via email and over the phone
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment including computer
- Perform other duties as assigned
