Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation or related field such as sports management, physical education, public administration, business administration
- Two years of progressively responsible experience coordinating and promoting recreational programs and services including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity
- Or any combination of relevant education, training, and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities
- Possession of a valid driver's license at time of hire and for the duration of employment
- Ability at employer’s discretion to obtain and maintain one or more certifications related to the position throughout employment
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field such as sports management, physical education, public administration, or business administration
- Two years of progressively responsible experience coordinating and promoting recreational programs and services including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity
- Knowledge of modern principles and practices of aquatic and athletic operations and recreation management
- Knowledge of public recreation philosophy, principles and practices
- Knowledge of budget preparation and administration
- Knowledge of effective supervision principles
- Skilled in planning, organizing and marketing aquatic and athletic programs
- Skilled in communication both oral and written
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, point of sale systems, online registration and scheduling software
- Ability to develop and evaluate recreational programs
- Ability to administer program budgets
- Ability to select, train and supervise employees
- Ability to coordinate event scheduling, promotion, and equipment/facility needs
- Ability to maintain effective records and reporting systems
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
- Ability to gain knowledge of federal and state swimming pool regulations and standards
Job Duties
- Administers assigned recreation programs and facilities to achieve goals within available resources
- Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for various recreation programs and facilities
- Monitors revenues and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel and other resources
- Provides recommendations to the Recreation Program Manager for program and facility fee revisions
- Develops partnerships and marketing strategies to enhance programs, facilities and services
- Administers the aquatic and/or athletic recreational programs including registration, scheduling, coordination of public swim programs, staffing, and adjudication of disciplinary issues
- Coordinates two aquatic facilities concession stands including training staff, inventory management, menu creation, and financial monitoring
- Assists with hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating seasonal aquatic and/or athletic staff
- Coordinates program logistics including registration forms, schedules, rules, policies, disciplinary procedures and facility agreements
- Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations including the Revised Code of Washington and American Red Cross guidelines
- Develops, evaluates and standardizes policies and procedures to improve operations efficiency, safety and effectiveness
- Organizes trainings on various topics such as emergency plans, customer service, disease prevention, cash handling, concessions operations, and harassment awareness
- Orders and maintains supplies and equipment inventories
- Administers contracts and schedules for facilities and officials
- Assists with grant applications and administration
- Coordinates fundraising activities and sponsorships
- Responds to public inquiries and makes presentations
- Plans and develops long-range goals for the department
- Attends professional development workshops and serves on committees
- Assists community groups with special event permitting and paperwork
- Performs other related duties as assigned
