Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, public administration, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in recreation program coordination or event management
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and program management software
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service

Job Duties

  • Develops, plans, coordinates, and monitors programs, classes, and events
  • Determines program location, transportation, equipment and supplies, appropriate paperwork and releases
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers
  • Monitors allocated budget
  • Researches and incorporates nationally recognized trends, ideas, and standards
  • Develops policies and procedures to monitor the effectiveness of the programming
  • Ensures safety protocol is followed
  • Collaborates with other cities and agencies
  • Assists in facility management
  • Purchases and cares for program equipment
  • Supervises staff and event contractors to coordinate and plan city-wide special events
  • Attracts sponsors
  • Locates and procures equipment and entertainment
  • Schedules proper staffing
  • Complies with policy requirements
  • Provides administrative support by answering phones, interacting with the public, inputting purchase orders and petty cash amounts, ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment
  • Oversees all activity at designated locations such as parks, school facilities, ball fields, and other public facilities
  • Sets up facilities and areas for special events, sports leagues, classes, and related tasks
  • Recruits, trains, motivates, evaluates, and promotes teamwork with all staff
  • Coordinates positive customer service experiences for program participants
  • Answers customer inquiries
  • Collaborates with school districts, non-profit groups, citizens, and other departments
  • Markets and promotes citywide programs, classes, and events
  • Creates and disseminates marketing materials
  • Utilizes software to maintain class information
  • Updates information on the website and social media outlets
  • Collaborates with other agencies to coordinate marketing efforts
  • Produces content for a quarterly brochure
  • Plans the annual program budget
  • Forecasts revenues and expenses
  • Authorizes payments
  • Monitors expenditures
  • Recommends adjustments
  • Evaluates program performance
  • Develops and implements procedures for improved efficiencies
  • Seeks grant opportunities
  • Prepares program evaluation reports
  • Performs on-site program inspections and evaluations
  • Monitors program compliance with laws, policies, and regulations
  • Supports recruitment and management of sponsorships and sponsor relationships
  • Maintains professional partnerships with sponsors
  • Coordinates sponsor recognition and deliverables
  • Works to support mutually beneficial relationships
  • Performs other duties as assigned
