Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or closely related field OR two years of post-secondary education and three years of year-round job experience in recreation OR two years of post-secondary education and five years of seasonal job experience in recreation
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or willingness to obtain within the first 3 months of employment

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or closely related field OR two years of post-secondary education and three years of year-round job experience in recreation OR two years of post-secondary education and five years of seasonal job experience in recreation
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or willingness to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Water Safety Instructor certification
  • Experience working with persons with special needs and/or disabilities
  • Experience working with recreation software programs and social media platforms
  • Second language proficiency (Spanish, Hmong, Somali)

Job Duties

  • On-deck supervision of swim lessons
  • Run 2-3 in-service trainings a month
  • Willingness to cover lifeguard or WSI shifts as needed
  • Assist in the hiring process of aquatic staff, making recommendations for personnel actions as appropriate
  • Develop and lead at least 1 main aquatics event yearly
  • Attend all aquatics special events and Recreation Department events as needed
  • Consult with Aquatics Supervisor or other officials to review operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations
  • Remain current in all certifications
  • Attend meetings as needed
  • Provide administrative support to both park and recreation program manager and aquatics supervisor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Assist Recreation Managers/Supervisors to provide leadership, work direction, schedules, communication and on-site supervision for part-time/seasonal staff, contractual staff and volunteers
  • Organize the planning of events, trainings, meetings, ongoing coaching and evaluations
  • Supervise, lead, and set a positive example for participants
  • Technical assistance with program and event management including registration, marketing, staff supervision, schedules, public outreach, communications and coordination of employees and programs
  • Responsible for communication with program partners, participants and employees regarding program updates, facility conditions and weather related issues
  • Keep accurate records of daily attendance, accident reports and discipline reports
  • Document and inform supervisor of on-site program concerns including scheduling conflicts, maintenance needs, and all other pertinent program related issues
  • Inventory supplies and equipment for events, communicate with supervisors and purchase additional supplies as directed
  • Ability to work well with others independently as responsibilities may require
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent
