Job Requirements
- Some assignments may require evening, weekend, or other shift work
- all City employees are deemed Emergency Disaster Workers and may be charged with duties during any emergency
- American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED certification required within three months of employment
- valid California Class C Driver License required at appointment
- ability to perform frequent heavy manual labor
- frequent standing, bending, squatting
- frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting up to 75 pounds
- frequent use of overall vision
- frequent grasping, holding, reaching
- frequent hearing and talking in person
Job Qualifications
- Two years of college coursework in recreation, leisure services, or a closely related field
- two years of experience in the field of recreation, leisure services, or a closely related field, preferably equivalent to a Recreation Specialist with the City of American Canyon
- American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED certification obtained within first three months of employment and maintained throughout employment
- possession of a valid California Class C Driver License
- ability to coordinate a variety of recreation programs
- ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- ability to lead, organize, and review the work of staff and volunteers
- ability to work with diverse populations and maintain an inclusive environment
Job Duties
- Plan, organize, implement, and lead assigned recreation program areas and facility operations such as teen programs, leisure classes, senior citizen, environmental/outdoor recreation, aquatics and sports
- direct the work of assigned part-time, temporary, contract, limited-duration, and volunteer staff
- provide lead direction in assigning and scheduling program work
- program and oversee contract services
- train subordinate staff and volunteers in program activities and ensure compliance with safety procedures
- provide input on program effectiveness and participation and make recommendations for improvements or modifications
