Job Requirements
- One year of experience coordinating a variety of recreation programs and services
- equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation/leisure services or related field
- additional qualifying experience may be substituted for 2 years of education on a year-for-year basis
- municipal experience preferred
- possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license
- ability to work varied schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays at various city facilities
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and training, budgeting and program needs analysis
- understanding of methods, techniques, procedures and philosophy of recreation programming
- proficiency in first aid and safety practices
- computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and recreation registration software
- ability to organize, direct, evaluate and supervise the activities of groups
- strong verbal and written communication skills
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups and the public
- physical ability to stand, sit, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, reach and lift or carry weights up to 25 pounds
Job Duties
- Plan, coordinate, schedule, promote and evaluate a variety of programs including instructional classes, special events, socials, trips, volunteers, sports and senior programs
- promote interest and involvement in recreation activities
- serve as a liaison between the city, other public and private agencies, citizen groups and professional organizations
- prepare and monitor program budgets ensuring allocations are not exceeded
- supervise collection of monies and maintain financial records
- recruit, select, train, schedule and evaluate part-time employees and volunteers
- oversee contracts, scheduling, payment and direction of contract instructors
- build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public
