Job Requirements

  • Possession of valid California Class C driver’s license
  • Good driving record
  • Ability to work irregular hours weekends holidays and on-call status
  • Physical ability to work in office and recreational settings including standing sitting for prolonged periods and lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Completion of college level courses in recreation social services physical education or closely related field is desirable
  • Two years of experience implementing recreation activities or programs
  • Enrollment in California DMV Pull Notice Program
  • Ability to provide legal right to work in the United States

  • Demonstrated customer service and public service skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse community groups and stakeholders
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license
  • Ability to supervise staff and coordinate programs
  • Proficiency in preparing reports and budget requests
  • Knowledge of safety regulations related to recreational facilities
  • Experience in event planning and community outreach

Job Duties

  • Assist in the development organization coordination and supervision of city-wide recreation activities and services
  • Promote and conduct community participation in city recreational activities and city-wide events
  • Develop new community relations outreach activities working with neighborhood groups to determine recreation interests and needs
  • Respond to public inquiries about recreation programs
  • Work effectively with school officials governmental agencies local organizations and businesses
  • Create work schedules and supervise part-time staff
  • Monitor and supervise program participants
  • Recommend seasonal programs and events
  • Organize large and small special events
  • Publish conduct and evaluate recreation programs special events and activities
  • Coordinate contract class programs
  • Prepare and justify budget requests
  • Prepare and present oral and written reports
  • Maintain records and files
  • Provide instruction to program participants
  • Monitor and enforce safe use of recreational facilities
  • Represent the department at meetings seminars and conferences
  • Work closely with city maintenance staff and other departments
  • Assist with citywide events and other programs as needed
  • Work a regular schedule with possible irregular hours weekends holidays and on-call status
