Job Requirements
- Knowledge of recreation programming including community classes, cultural arts, day camps, seniors, and special events
- Understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of parks and recreation programs, activities, and events
- Familiarity with general facility and parks operations
- Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of Adobe software suite preferred
- Ability to provide strong support for recreation programs, activities, and events
- Strong customer service skills and positive attitude
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions from supervisory staff
- Effective organization, critical thinking, and multitasking skills
- Punctuality, initiative, and common sense
- Strong English communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to enforce and abide by city and school district policies using strong decision-making ability
- Capability to maintain safety, cleanliness, and general order of recreational facilities
Job Qualifications
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent
- Current enrollment in college or a college degree is highly desirable
- Minimum of one year of responsible prior experience in related recreational activities
- Minimum of one year experience in customer service
- Certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automatic external defibrillator (AED), and standard first aid upon hire
- Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver license and have a satisfactory driving record
Job Duties
- Assist with planning and organizing city programs, activities, and events for participants of all ages
- Communicate information and respond to inquiries from the general public, contract instructors, and city staff in person, via telephone, and electronic communication
- Collect program registration fees, prepare records, and produce activity reports
- Explain and enforce department rules and regulations governing facilities, parks, and programs
- Assist in the development and promotion of programs including marketing and graphic design
- Conduct routine facility inspections and document general usage and issues related to maintenance and safety
- Prepare facilities for programs and reservations
- Assist with minor maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment including cleaning and stocking facilities
- Represent the park and recreation interests of the city
- Perform other duties as assigned
