Job Description

This position is located within the Fitness Center of the Athletic Branch under the Recreation Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department at Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department is dedicated to enriching the lives of service members, their families, and authorized patrons by providing quality recreational, fitness, and leisure programs. As a part of this esteemed department, the Fitness Center plays a crucial role in promoting health, wellness, and physical fitness among military personnel and eligible patrons.

Job Requirements

  • US citizen
  • males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service
  • suitable for federal employment
  • complete probationary period if applicable
  • participation in direct deposit pay program
  • possession of social security card
  • successful completion of employment verification (E-VERIFY)
  • favorable background check
  • 6 months or more of general experience
  • 6 months or more of specialized experience
  • or 2 years of study in related recreation courses
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience directly related to fitness facility operation
  • knowledge of principles and methods used in physical fitness programs
  • ability to repair and maintain aerobic and strength equipment
  • skill in customer service and communication
  • ability to apply tact and diplomacy
  • knowledge of safety standards in fitness environments
  • neat appearance and pleasant personality

Job Duties

  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of fitness equipment
  • promote and conduct diversified fitness programs
  • ensure safe and economical operation of facilities and equipment
  • provide instruction on proper use of fitness equipment
  • maintain accurate records of equipment status and upkeep
  • assist patrons with fitness-related inquiries and needs
  • respond to and resolve facility and equipment issues promptly
