Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • prior experience working with the public in customer service or receptionist responsibilities
  • ability to meet attendance requirements
  • ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • ability to operate a telephone and/or switchboard
  • ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing and climbing in food pantry role
  • ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs
  • ability to perform duties mostly seated with occasional standing or walking

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • prior experience in customer service or receptionist roles
  • ability to communicate effectively in English
  • ability to operate multi-line telephone and office equipment
  • strong organizational skills
  • ability to assist clients courteously and tactfully
  • basic knowledge of social services operation
  • ability to perform clerical support work
  • skill in coordinating food pantry activities
  • ability to maintain accurate records
  • physical ability to perform moderate manual tasks
  • ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

Job Duties

  • Answers telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination
  • records accurate and complete messages when necessary
  • receives and receipts deliveries and donations
  • greets and announces visitors and clients
  • provides general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services
  • performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing
  • schedules client appointments with social services worker
  • assists people requesting social service assistance
  • issues clothing and furniture vouchers
  • records and updates statistical information
  • prepares and packs food bags for food pantry
  • inspects and sorts donated food items
  • coordinates retrieval, storage, and distribution of food and commodities
  • maintains food pantry inventory and cleanliness
  • performs data entry for client information
  • maintains neatness of reception and food pantry area
  • performs other duties as assigned
