Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 to 2 years of relevant work or volunteer experience, preferably with homeless populations
- Patience and compassion for underserved populations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to operate multi-line phone systems and office equipment
- Knowledge of local housing and community resources
- Ability to remain calm and de-escalate challenging situations
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Flexibility to adapt to varying work conditions including occasional outdoor work
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 to 2 years of work or volunteer experience, preferably with the homeless population
- Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion, and sensitivity to persons with disabilities and underserved populations
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Excellent administrative ability, including organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong computer skills
- Ability to be self-directed and take initiative while discerning when to seek supervision
- Knowledge of local housing programs and requirements, and homeless services within the Bexar County area
- Familiarity with Federal and State Local Agencies involved in human and housing services
- Shared lived experience of homelessness, mental health, and/or substance abuse challenges is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with a variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, judgment, and poise
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, dependability, and integrity
- Good problem-solving skills
- Able to effectively handle multiple tasks, changing priorities and moderately complex assignments
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Job Duties
- Maintain operation of the front desk and/or support area at designated hours of operation or as assigned by the Director of Client Services
- Answer, screen and/or forward incoming phone calls on the multi-line phone system and direct to appropriate staff or provide appropriate resource information
- Maintain records of client, visitor, staff, and/or partner interactions, recording details of inquiries, as well as action taken
- Assist clients, visitors, staff, and/or partner in connecting with appropriate staff, program, department and/or agency by providing all forms of communication for that contact
- Create and issue visitor badges
- Establish a Staff Directory and update as necessary
- Develop and maintain a Resource Directory with a thorough knowledge of community area resources for referrals, including but not limited to financial, mental health, substance abuse, and alternative housing resources
- Calmly address concerns ensuring proper de-escalation, as needed
- Maintain confidentiality of all interactions with clients, visitors, staff and partner agency
- Assist with recruitment of volunteers and collaborate with other departments in interviewing, training and oversight of volunteers
- Provide training and oversight to interns and service-learning students assigned to the Client Services Department as directed by the Director of Client Services
- Coordinate security of work area with the Life Safety Department in regard to gates/doors based on operations and activities of area
- Identify service hours/days and walk in times for assigned work area
- Maintain office equipment inventory of supplies
- Support staff in assigned projects
- Help maintain cleanliness and order of assigned area
- Support the goals of Haven for Hope
- promote a positive campus image to the local community
- adhere to the agency mission as well as follow a professional code of ethics
- Advise supervisor of repetitive issues that need to be addressed, documented, and resolved
- Other duties as assigned
