Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in a receptionist or clerical role preferred
  • ability to operate a telephone switchboard
  • basic proficiency in cash handling and record keeping
  • strong interpersonal skills
  • ability to manage multitasking in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Operates switchboard, answers, transfers, and disseminates all incoming calls to appropriate people in a professional and courteous manner and takes messages
  • pages individuals over the central paging system as requested and according to hospital policy
  • greets, welcomes, and directs individuals entering the Hospital promptly, assuring that all visitors, vendors and other guests are registered in the Hospital Visitor's Log
  • provides assistance to patients and employees, such as making change, checking valuables, providing meal tickets, and providing postage as requested
  • sorts and delivers incoming mail and sends outgoing mail on a timely basis
  • handles facility inquiries and provides general information
  • maintains petty cash fund
  • performs cash receipt batch write-up including G/L coding
  • accepts payments on patient accounts and writes receipts
  • notifies facility staff of visitor's arrival
  • maintains security by following established procedures including monitoring guest logbook and issuing visitor badges, if required
  • keeps track of inventory and works with supply vendors to ensure a well-stocked office
  • copies, files and updates paper and electronic documents
  • assists in managing hospital census by discharging and updating patient accounts, when necessary
  • performs data entry as assigned
  • provides clerical support to other departments, as needed
