Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- basic knowledge of computer keyboard
- familiarity with medical terminology
- three to four months of related experience including on-the-job training
- ability to interact with patients, visitors, and hospital staff with empathy and professionalism
- sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer and office equipment
- capacity to stand, bend, and sit as required
- adherence to safety procedures and protocols in a healthcare environment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- basic knowledge of computer keyboard
- demonstrated interpersonal skills including empathy, compassion, warmth and kindness
- familiarity with medical terminology
- demonstrated ability to interact with patients, visitors, and hospital staff
- completion of three to four months related experience including on-the-job training
- knowledge of patient care considerations related to aging, human development stages, and cultural patterns
- effective communication skills
Job Duties
- Greets and assists visitors and patients
- assists and directs to various locations in the hospital and/or building
- calls for an escort when necessary
- carefully reads patient paperwork to ensure patient is directed appropriately
- ensures patient paperwork is accurate
- notifies appropriate department if discrepancy is found
- interacts with clinical staff to keep family/caregiver informed of procedure progress
- reacts to unexpected patient outcomes with empathy and compassion
- contacts Interfaith Chaplain or Social Worker to support family/caregiver
- answers telephone using appropriate techniques and proper identification
- maintains accurate paperwork system for patients with similar names
- keeps hourly record of surgical procedures and patient status
- provides clear directions to patients and visitors including parking, wheelchair assistance, telephones, restrooms, and hospital departments
- provides room numbers of patients
- assists patients and families to coordinate transportation
- photocopies materials
- performs clerical functions
- preserves confidentiality of information
- attends in-service and educational programs
- attends and participates in staff meetings
- assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
- maintains department policies, procedures, quality assurance, safety, and environmental control
- performs other related duties as required
