Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • current BLS certification with CPR skills demonstration required
  • a minimum of one year experience in a medical office preferred
  • experience in appointment scheduling
  • experience in data entry helpful
  • experience in insurance billing helpful
  • good typing skills and computer working knowledge
  • ability to use routine office equipment such as phone and copier
  • ability to count money, make change, and reconcile daily collections
  • excellence in public relations skills
  • conversational Spanish preferred
  • ability to work in a multi-tasked environment
  • ability to understand and exchange verbal information
  • ability to read and compose written documents
  • ability to memorize
  • reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • knowledge of CPT and ICD-9-CM coding helpful

Job Duties

  • Answer and direct telephone calls
  • schedule appointments
  • process paperwork for daily clinic operations
  • collect patient payments
  • assist and direct all contacts
  • provide excellent customer service
  • enter, verify and maintain patient billing information
  • maintain confidentiality
  • ensure departmental functions embrace organization philosophy, mission, values and service model
  • adhere to organization guidelines and procedures
  • provide Patient Information Form for changes or new patients
  • enter new patients into practice management system
  • process necessary paperwork such as fee slips, schedules, reports
  • process patients through check-in
  • update and maintain accurate billing information
  • accurately schedule appointments
  • assist patients and visitors in obtaining assistance
  • obtain and scan insurance and Medicare cards
  • verify insurance eligibility prior to appointments
  • discuss payer discrepancies with patients
  • collect co-pays and patient deposits
  • maintain cash box and process credit card transactions
  • accurately enter patient payments
  • balance money collected with posted amounts
  • work with Patient Accounts to resolve balances
  • assist patients with billing questions
  • open and close clinic reception daily
  • provide substitute coverage at all sites
  • provide coverage on holidays and extended hours
  • uphold fiscal and accounting policies
  • perform general office duties
  • perform other assigned duties
