Job Description

Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit (KSN) is a leading real estate tax law firm renowned for its specialized focus on property tax appeal matters. Based in Homewood, Illinois, KSN has built a strong reputation over the years by providing expert legal services tailored to complex commercial real estate taxation issues. The firm is dedicated to supporting property owners, developers, and businesses in navigating the intricate and often challenging property tax systems, primarily focusing on Cook County and surrounding areas. KSN's commitment to client success and their adept handling of tax-related disputes have positioned them as a trusted leader in this niche market. The firm’s culture fosters collaboration, innovation, and professional growth, creating an environment where legal professionals can thrive and deepen their expertise in a specialized legal field.

The role of Real Estate Tax Attorney at Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit offers a unique opportunity for an attorney with a passion for property tax law to join a dynamic and expanding team. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Homewood, Illinois, with a starting salary of $115,000 and a comprehensive benefits package. The position is structured for Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing a stable and predictable work schedule.

As a Real Estate Tax Attorney at KSN, the selected candidate will be deeply involved in managing and litigating property tax appeals, handling complex commercial and developmental properties' valuation and assessment challenges. The role requires drafting and filing property tax appeals, complaints, and legal briefs, as well as analyzing property valuations, assessment data, and financial records. Attorneys will work closely with the Cook County Assessor, Board of Review, and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board to advocate effectively on behalf of clients. Additionally, involvement in supporting Circuit Court tax objection cases and assisting with tax incentive programs such as 6b, 7, 8, and TIF programs will broaden the attorney’s scope of expertise.

This position is ideal for a legal professional looking to build a career in a highly specialized and growing practice area of real estate taxation. The firm values candidates who have strong analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently, and experience in drafting legal documents and managing filings. While experience with Cook County tax appeal systems and familiarity with tax incentives are considered advantageous, they are not mandatory, providing opportunities for new attorneys eager to develop these skills. Working at KSN will provide exposure to complex commercial real estate matters and an opportunity to grow within an established, stable firm committed to long-term professional development and success.
