Job Requirements

  • Must be a resident of South Carolina
  • Must pass physical fitness test including walking two miles in 30 minutes carrying a 25 lb pack or meet agency fitness standards
  • Must obtain firefighter registration with SC State Fire Marshal's office
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must pass drug and alcohol testing
  • Valid Class D driver's license
  • Must complete SCFC Basic Fire School within one year
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel
  • Availability for weekend and evening work
  • Must maintain current Part 107 certification
  • Subject to SCFC drug-free workplace policies and testing

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent program experience
  • Current FAA Part 107 certification
  • Knowledge of UAS operations and FAA regulations
  • Ability to develop and maintain training materials
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and the public
  • Fireline qualifications or willingness to obtain

Job Duties

  • Coordinate SCFC UAS program design, implementation, and daily administrative activities
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for UAS use
  • Train and ensure proficiency of agency drone pilots
  • Maintain and manage agency drone fleet and related equipment
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations and agency policies
  • Develop and present reports on agency UAS use and needs
  • Represent SCFC at drone-related conferences and meetings
