Job Requirements
- Physical stamina and strength to lift/carry/push/pull items up to 70 pounds regularly and repetitively lift 40 to 50 pounds on raised surfaces
- ability to carry heavy items up and down narrow jetway stairs
- ability to walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop frequently for extended periods
- ability to work in cramped or high places
- ability to be alert to moving vehicles or aircraft and use radio equipment to communicate with crew and airport authorities
- ability to work outside in all weather conditions amid jet and machinery noises
- good communication skills to effectively coordinate with flight crew, gate agents, and ground crew
- basic math skills for weight and balance calculations
- computer skills for tracking cargo and baggage
- problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues during loading and unloading
- effective time-management skills to complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Job Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age
- possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- have authorization to work in the United States or Canada according to local immigration laws
- complete ramp and SIDA training to obtain airport authority identification security
- secure a Customs Seal if required by customer or role access
- preferred qualification is one or more years of relevant experience
Job Duties
- Guide inbound/outbound airplanes to and from the gate
- transport, lift, load/unload, sort and transfer passenger baggage, cargo, and mail material in and out of aircraft bins, belt loader, or baggage carts in a safe manner
- safeguard customer baggage, air cargo, airmail from weather, loss, theft, damage and/or destruction
- clean aircraft passenger cabins between flights and stock aircraft with needed supplies
- operate heavy equipment such as pushback equipment and maintain visual contact with Wing Walkers to ensure the equipment is free of any danger
- operate and/or drive motorized equipment such as belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, push back tugs, bag carts, lavatory carts, and deicers or manually push and pull push carts and containers
- receive and record customer baggage, air freight, mail, and company materials as required
- pick up, deliver, and transport cargo and baggage to and from aircraft, including wheelchairs, strollers, live animals, and other vital property of passengers, and prepare records in connection with these responsibilities
- complete paperwork and forms connected with work assignments pertaining to procedures and enter data into companys information system as required
- follow company procedures and protocols to ensure we are always operating in a safe and responsible manner
- complete all training when required by company, airport governing authority, or customer
- be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
