Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum 1 year experience in security, public safety, or related customer service
- Ability to pass background investigation, drug screen, physical and psychological screening
- Must be able to obtain required state-specific licenses and certifications within timelines
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Must maintain physical fitness to perform job duties
- Ability to handle stressful and potentially violent situations
- Must be willing to carry and maintain department-authorized firearm
- Must complete firearms and safety qualifications annually
- Ability to communicate effectively via radio and telephone
- Proficiency in computer use for documentation
- Ability to physically restrain individuals when necessary
- Must comply with Public Safety Firearms Policy
- Must maintain certifications for use of conducted energy weapons
- Knowledge of street drugs, gang activity, and human trafficking awareness
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) within two years
- Armed Guard License if applicable by state
- NIMS Compliance Certification
- FOID card or CCW license
- Firearm Control Card (FCC) within 90 days of hire
- Stop the Bleed Certification within one year
- Valid driver’s license
- Certification in Conducted Energy Weapon use
- Experience in security, public safety, or customer service with emergent situations
- Ability to use computers for documentation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated mature judgment and sound reasoning
- Completion of State of Illinois 40-hour armed course with pistol endorsement (for Illinois team members)
- Willingness to carry a department-authorized firearm and maintain qualifications
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Collaborative work skills
- Ability to interact with people empathetically and compassionately
Job Duties
- Provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion
- Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor
- Performs routine interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections and audits
- Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence and service calls involving combative or threatening individuals
- Serves as a resource for de-escalation and utilizes force when necessary using conducted electrical weapons and handcuffing
- Plans for and responds to emergencies such as fire, active threats, and missing persons
- Investigates incidents on Advocate Health property and completes accurate reports
- Liaises with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and coordinates prisoner patient guards
- Maintains training standards in communications, hemorrhage control, CPR, and weapon use
- Assists with exterior traffic and crowd control measures
- Utilizes interview and interrogation tactics to gather information
- Completes patrolling with a community-oriented approach
