Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Typically requires 1 years of experience in security related public safety or customer service areas including emergent situation response and risk resolution
  • Must successfully pass background investigation drug screen pre-placement physical and psychological screening assessment
  • Willingness to carry a department authorized firearm while on duty
  • Must be physically fit to walk all facility areas restrain individuals if necessary and assist clinical teammates with lifting
  • Strong awareness of street drugs gang activity and human trafficking
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and support a safe therapeutic environment
  • Must possess hand strength dexterity and ability to safely operate firearms and related equipment
  • Must meet Illinois licensing requirements and annual qualifications
  • Ability to communicate with people clearly and effectively
  • Must maintain all required certifications and training
  • Must be alert observant ethical and professional in demeanor

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within two years of appointment
  • Armed Guard License for North Carolina teammates within 1 year
  • NIMS Compliance Certification
  • Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license
  • Must meet State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and obtain Firearm Control Card (FCC) within 90 days of hire
  • Stop the Bleed Certification within 1 year of hire
  • Valid driver's license issued by Division of Motor Vehicle
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (e.g. TASER) use within 90 days and periodically thereafter
  • Illinois team members must complete State of Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning with courteous demeanor
  • Demonstrated experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action
  • Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications
  • Ability to use computer for documentation
  • Ability to defend self and others when necessary
  • Ability to communicate effectively via radio and telephone with clear diction

Job Duties

  • Provides security services with a customer-service approach focusing on professionalism fairness and compassion
  • Inspires confidence in patients visitors and team members by presenting a professional approachable and service-oriented appearance and demeanor
  • Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security including inspections to identify vulnerabilities hazards and fire conditions audits of Interim Life Safety Measures patient valuables management and thorough contraband searches
  • Prevents responds to and investigates workplace violence and responds to service calls such as combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents
  • Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation utilizing use of force when necessary including conducted electrical weapon (CEW) and handcuffing
  • Performs key responsibilities to plan prevent practice and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children fire and active threats
  • Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations physically intervenes in accordance with training to situations that have a potential for injury
  • Investigates incidents that occur on property and completes timely and accurate reports addresses and escalates complaints to appropriate leader and provides supporting documentation
  • Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all departments and units and delivers security awareness education to team members
  • Liaisons with federal state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies and coordinates briefs and monitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard
  • Maintains current Department training standards including radio communications verbal de-escalation hemorrhage control CPR application of clinical restraints and conducted energy weapon training
  • Assists with exterior traffic and crowd control including parking enforcement valet parking assist and vehicular assistance
  • Utilizes interview and interrogation tactics to uncover information about incidents that have occurred
  • Completes patrolling with a community-oriented approach
