Job Description
The Public Safety Officer I - Armed position at Lutheran General Hospital offers a full-time employment opportunity, working the second shift from 2 pm to 10:30 pm. Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum one year experience in security or related public safety or customer service
- Ability to pass background investigation drug screening and physical and psychological assessments
- Possession or ability to obtain Security Officer Healthcare Certification within two years
- Valid driver’s license
- Certified in conducted energy weapon use within 90 days of hire
- Firearm Owners Identification card or Concealed Carry Weapon license as required
- Must meet State of Illinois licensing requirements and obtain Firearm Control Card within 90 days if applicable
- Stop the Bleed Certification within 1 year of hire
- Willingness to carry department-authorized firearm
- Ability to perform physical duties requiring lifting and restraint
- Ability to communicate clearly via radio and telephone
- Must complete required annual active duty handgun qualification courses
- Capable of functioning calmly in high stress and potentially violent situations
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in security related public safety or customer service area including emergent situation response
- Ability to use computer software such as Microsoft Word Excel and databases for documentation
- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications
- Ability to carry and operate firearms with proper certification and training
- Strong emotional intelligence with empathetic and compassionate response skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise sound judgment
- Experience working collaboratively with medical staff and external law enforcement
- Certified in conducted energy weapon use and CPR
- Ability to comply with department and state licensing and certification requirements
- Must successfully pass background investigation drug screen and physical assessments
Job Duties
- Provides security services with a customer-service approach focusing on professionalism fairness and compassion
- Inspires confidence by presenting a professional approachable service-oriented demeanor
- Performs routine interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety including inspections and audits
- Prevents responds to and investigates workplace violence and service calls
- Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation and use of force when necessary
- Plans and responds to emergency situations including lost or abducted infants fire and active threats
- Investigates incidents and completes reports addressing escalated complaints
- Conducts liaison rounding duties and delivers security awareness education
- Coordinates with law enforcement and first responder agencies ensuring compliance
- Maintains training in radio communications de-escalation hemorrhage control CPR use of clinical restraints and conducted energy weapons
- Assists with traffic and crowd control including parking enforcement
- Utilizes interview and interrogation tactics with a community-oriented approach during patrols
