Job Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to pass and maintain ODOT Safe driver training
  • Workplace Violence Prevention training
  • Secure transport training
  • Handcuffing tactics
  • Defensive tactics
  • ability to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • ability to stand and walk for 75 percent or more of the work period
  • ability to lift, carry, push or pull 1-50 pounds frequently
  • ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing stairs
  • ability to manage multiple tasks independently
  • ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
  • ability to deliver customer service and patient care that promotes goodwill
  • ability to pass initial 6-8 week training curriculum

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • ability to obtain DPSST Armed/Unarmed Professional certification within 90 days of hire
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification within 30 days of hire
  • valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet driving requirements
  • ability to pass all phases of the 6-8-week new officer training
  • excellent communication skills
  • strong team working and collaborative skills
  • ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills

Job Duties

  • Performs secure transport
  • assesses need for restraints and secures patients in accordance with state statutes
  • adheres to St. Charles Behavioral Health code of ethics including integrity guidelines
  • responds to emergency codes
  • works as a security dispatcher managing calls, officer movement, and tracking software
  • completes timely and accurate reports including code gray debriefs and after action reports
  • monitors and enforces hospital parking rules
  • escalates policy violations to security leadership
  • serves as front line customer representative providing wayfinding
  • conducts real-time threat assessments and makes recommendations
  • removes potentially harmful items from patients
  • operates vehicle safely during transport
  • renders first aid or CPR in emergent situations
  • completes required documentation per regulatory standards
  • ensures safety of patients, caregivers, visitors, and property
  • operates metal detectors within policy
  • inspects buildings for security
  • provides professional service and direction for after-hours hospital care
  • leads de-escalation support
  • coordinates with admitting and nursing staff to monitor entrances
  • responsible for crowd control during mass casualty events
  • monitors cameras and secure doors, responds to facility alarms and troubleshoots issues
  • follows all safety rules and procedures
  • functions as unlicensed assistive care provider under nursing supervision
  • supports organizational vision, mission, and values

  • maintains a safe environment
  • conducts activities professionally and confidentially
  • complies with laws and policies
  • delivers customer service promoting goodwill
  • performs additional duties as assigned
