Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three years experience in high volume customer service environment including stressful situations
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must possess or obtain California POST Basic Dispatch Certificate within one year of employment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Pass typing test at 35 words per minute with 90 percent accuracy
  • Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
  • Ability to operate radio, telephone and computer-aided dispatch systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree in criminal justice or related field preferred
  • Prior law enforcement or fire emergency dispatch experience preferred
  • Knowledge of basic communications rules and radio operations
  • Knowledge of standard dispatch procedures and emergency call processing
  • Knowledge of tribal codes, landmarks, geographic boundaries, and public safety radio codes
  • Strong decision making, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience assessing and mitigating security threats preferred
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other dispatch software
  • Ability to follow oral, written, and electronic instructions
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with public safety personnel and other entities
  • Bilingual abilities a plus

Job Duties

  • Use multiple communications systems to coordinate emergency calls and relay information and assistance
  • Conduct public safety threat analysis and coordinate with law enforcement and other departments
  • Broadcast emergency alerts and BOLO information across radio channels and enter data into CAD system
  • Receive, screen, enter, dispatch, and monitor high volume of emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Track availability and location of public safety units and maintain computerized logs
  • Monitor emergency alarm systems and analyze surveillance video for suspicious activity
  • Determine number and type of units to dispatch based on call details and unit availability
  • Perform camera checks and report surveillance equipment issues
  • Provide support services to Tribal Community including elder checks and animal control dispatch
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations
