Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university
  • Five years of experience in government communications public relations media relations or journalism
  • Valid Louisiana Drivers License
  • Ability to work on multiple projects to meet both short and long-range deadlines
  • Ability to quickly learn BREC policies operations programs and communications
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with departmental staff and to relate well to representatives of public and private interest groups the news media the public and officials of other agencies
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise good judgment based on established policies and procedures
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure especially in high-profile time sensitive or crisis situations

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university
  • Communications Public Relations Journalism or any related field of study
  • Five years of experience in government communications public relations media relations or journalism
  • Knowledge of AP style and professional standards of journalism and public communications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor messages for different audiences
  • Proficiency in digital media platforms and content management systems
  • Event planning and coordination skills with attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership initiative and problem-solving abilities
  • Valid Louisiana Drivers License

Job Duties

  • Act as the main spokesperson for BREC preparing and delivering timely responses to media and public inquiries
  • Draft review and distribute press releases media advisories fact sheets and official statements
  • Produce and manage content for BREC's internal monthly Park Bench newsletter to staff
  • Develop relationships with local regional and national media outlets to maximize positive coverage
  • Monitor media coverage and provide recurring reports to leadership
  • Coordinate with the Director of Communications and other staff to ensure accurate messaging on programs services events and issues affecting the community
  • Support all elements of BREC's public image particularly media engagement and external communications
  • Plan coordinate and support events such as press conferences ribbon cuttings and community meetings
  • Manage crisis communications including developing key messages and coordinating rapid responses
  • Assist with social media content and strategy to ensure consistent public messaging
  • Develop and maintain BREC's public information policies and protocols
  • Prepare talking points speeches and briefing materials for Commissioners and leadership
  • Work closely with departments across BREC to proactively identify stories successes and initiatives to share publicly
  • Ensure compliance with public information and open records laws
  • Attend meetings of the BREC Commission Community Advisory Committees as needed
