Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • six months to one year experience on multi-line main switchboard preferred
  • one year experience with computers using Microsoft products preferred
  • ability to type 55 words per minute
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • interpersonal qualities including outgoing, friendly, courteous, and conscientious behavior
  • genuine desire to assist others on the phone and/or in person

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • six months to one year experience on multi-line main switchboard preferred
  • one year experience with computers using Microsoft products preferred
  • bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred but not required
  • typing 55 words per minute
  • knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • working knowledge of geographic make-up of City
  • ability to read newspapers, forms, maps, labels, and handwriting
  • ability to write messages and directions
  • ability to reason when following simple verbal and written instructions and determining needs of visitors

Job Duties

  • Answers incoming calls on main switchboard forwarding to appropriate departments
  • greets public and directs to appropriate department, building, city location, city official and/or answers questions about city services or schedules
  • performs various clerical tasks such as folding and stuffing letters, labeling envelopes, creating labels, light correspondence, inserting supplements to departmental code books, accepting packages and routing to appropriate departments
  • maintains front lobby area with updated information
  • distributes weekly newspaper
  • creates signage for meetings in conference rooms
  • logs in and out visitors to various departments
  • operates printer, computer, scanner, label maker and shredding machine
  • assists other departments with clerical duties as assigned by supervisor
