Job Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts or related field from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Two years of industry related experience
  • Prior experience in teaching at post-secondary level is preferred
  • Five years of industry related experience is preferred
  • Unofficial transcripts and/or training certifications required with application
  • Official transcripts required prior to employment
  • Academic degrees earned outside the United States must be validated by a credential evaluation service
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Compliance with college policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques
  • Understanding of current trends, research and development in culinary arts
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques involved in test development and administration
  • Ability to interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships
  • Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination for observations, reading, writing, communication, equipment operation and multitasking
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to job duties such as standing or sitting for extended periods, operating assigned equipment, multitasking, bending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to maintain mental capacity for making sound decisions, responding to questions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities

Job Duties

  • Establishing and maintaining above average standards for culinary classroom and lab in sanitation and safety
  • Instruct students in proper knife skills, dress code, sanitation, and fundamental cooking techniques
  • Evaluate students’ performance through testing and practical exams
  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance
  • Grade and record individual scores
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery
  • Develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Submit all required paperwork including class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
  • Oversee implementation of policies and procedures related to teaching area in accordance with college policies and guidelines
  • Demonstrate skills through classroom demonstrations
  • Give feedback and constructive criticism to students based on performance
  • Assess relevancy and impact of lessons and recommend improvements
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments
  • Travel with students to provide assistance and instruction
  • Perform other duties as assigned
